Huge Success at the Charity Car Show for the Queen City Corvette Club

The “City Chevrolet Classic”, which is the charity car show that City Chevrolet sponsored for the Queen City Corvette Club on Saturday, May 5 at Hendrick Motorsports, was a huge success!  This was the first time that the car show was set up at Hendrick Motorsports and it worked out perfectly!  There were hundreds of people in attendance and they had over 140 classic and high-performance cars registered for the show.  City Chevrolet representatives, Andy Snyder (Inventory & NC Sales Manager) and Tim Dobbins (NC Sales Representative), were on-site and were proud judges for the Dealer’s Choice category..  Andy and Tim chose Bruce Stroncek with his 1969 Camaro RS/SS as the Dealer’s Choice.  Bruce is pictured here with his car and his 3-year old grandson, Emillano.  Bruce did a frame-off restoration on his Camaro and built it to his wife’s special order.  It’s a RS/SS with a 468 BB engine and a 4-speed with a few modern upgrades.  Thanks to Sue Bunce who attended as honorary photographer for the day.

Best Camaro & Best Engine:       Mike Blackburn from Monroe, NC, 1970 Camaro
Best Truck & Best Interior:         Tyler Moness from Robbins, NC, 1952 Chevy Pickup

Best Chevy:                          Jack White from Concord, NC, 1958  Chevy Impala

Best of Show & Best Corvette:   Jerry Lyndon from Statesville, NC, 1956 Corvette

Dealer’s Choice: Bruce Stroncek from Waxhaw, NC, 1969 Camaro RS/SS

Nine Vincentric 2012 Best Fleet Value Awards for Chevrolet

City Chevrolet, the most reputed Chevy dealership in Charlotte, NC, is proud to announce that General Motors has been honored with nine Vincentric 2012 Best Fleet Value awards. GM earned more Best Fleet Value awards than any other manufacturer and City Chevrolet is bustling with joy to share this news with all Chevy admirers.

The nine GM models that fetched the title include:
  1. Buick Regal - 2.4L eAssist- mid-sized sedan, premium segment
  2. Buick Enclave - base front-wheel-drive - crossover, large, premium segment
  3. Chevrolet Express / GMC Savana G1500 Cargo - full-size cargo van, ½-ton segment
  4. Chevrolet Express / GMC Savana G1500 SWB - full-size passenger van, ½-ton segment
  5. Chevrolet Express / GMC Savana G3500 Wagon - LWB- full-size passenger van, 1-ton segment
  6. Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra 2500HD - LT regular cab 2WD-full-size heavy duty pickup, ¾-ton segment
  7. Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra 3500 HD - LT regular cab 2WD SRW- full-size heavy duty pickup, 1-ton segmen
  8. Chevrolet Tahoe LS Commercial - 2WD- SUV, large segment
  9. Chevrolet Avalanche LS - 2WD-sport utility truck segment

David Wurster, president of Vincentric says, “Chevrolet and GMC showed strong fleet strength in the truck and van segments due to their low depreciation and insurance costs.” He further added, “We also saw the strength of eAssist technology on the Buick Regal, which earned its award largely due to its low fuel costs in high-mileage lifecycle scenarios."

In its seventh year, the Vincentric Awards are used by fleet operators to understand vehicle lifecycle costs, a key part of the purchase process.

"Our track record of winning the Vincentric Awards, especially in the truck and van segments, is important to our customers so they can be confident that our products provide the value they need," said Ed Peper, General Manager, GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. "We understand the importance of lifecycle costs to our customers, and are committed to providing great products that meet their business needs and benefit their bottom line."

Several cost factors were measured by Vincentric including fuel consumption, depreciation value, insurance amount, opportunity cost, financing, maintenance, taxes and state fees, and repairs were considered before deciding the winner. These costs were then integrated with the Vincentric Fleet Price, which estimates the acquisition cost for each vehicle in the study. With 20 different mileage/lifecycle timeframe scenarios used in each of the 50 states, including Washington D.C., the resulting 21 million-plus lifecycle cost measurements were then reviewed to determine the winning vehicles.

The Chevrolet Sonic Show What You Know Competition

Today, City Chevrolet hosts The Chevrolet Sonic Show What You Know Competition at our dealership.  This competition is open to all Chevrolet sales consultants who are currently enrolled in the 2011/2012 Mark of Excellence program.  Phase 1 consisted of salespeople submitting their best practice ideas based on given topics and were judged among their peers.  Winners moved on to Phase 2.  Again, the salespeople submitted their best practices based on given topics and their peers voted for them.  Winners moved on to the in-dealership walk-around competition.  Today’s presentations will be judged by a District Manager and a Product Trainer.

Today’s participants include 2 of City Chevrolet’s best salespeople…Joe Ayers and Keith Black.  Joe Ayers has been in New Car Sales since he started with City Chevrolet in 2006 and he has received Rookie of the Year and President’s Club awards.  Keith Black is City’s most tenured salesperson, having been with us since 1970.  Keith has been here since even before Rick Hendrick purchased the dealership.

The participants have prepared a 10 minute presentation that is composed of a mix of key product features, competitive advantages, and one example of demonstrating key technical features during the vehicle delivery.  One winner from the 6 participants will be selected and that winner will receive $150 in earn POWER points.  The Judge will use the standardized scoring sheet to evaluate the participants and the District Manager will select 2 winners from their district to move on.  Those winners will advance to the next round of competition.  After a few more rounds, the finalists will compete at the National Finals in Detroit, Michigan.  The top 10 places at Nationals will win cash prizes and the top 2 winners will receive new Chevrolet Sonics, worth up to $21,000!  Good luck to all, especially Joe and Keith!

City Chevrolet's First ZL1 Camaro!

Congratulations to Mr. Lewis North, proud owner of City Chevrolet’s 1st 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1! Lewis and his daughter, Kelly (also pictured here), drove away on Wednesday in his new Silver Ice Metallic ZL1. Lewis' first car was a 1967 GTO that he had kept for 30 years. He was so excited to get his ZL1 because it had restored that spirit he felt back in high school. Lewis said, "Just as a car is the right of passage of a boy becoming a man, it is the CAR that keeps the boy in the man." How true!
Lewis said “Sure there are import cars like Ferraris. But the Camaro is a true American muscle car!” Chris Goodman, New Car Internet Manager, said that Lewis expressed that the Camaro ZL1 is truly the first car he’s seen in the past 45 years that pays tribute to the era of the battle of the muscle cars. CDC/Internet Director, Heather Drayton, got emotional listening to such a nostalgic story of Lewis’s younger years. Leave it to the Chevy Camaro to bring out the kid in you…even 45 years later! PS. Camaro wins!

Private Used Cars for Sale vs. GM Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

Wondering why you should buy a GM Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle when you can grab a used car from a private owner at as much as $2000 less? Buying from a private used car seller may cost a bit less, but the risks of repair costs after purchase and the uncertainty of the most valuable components lifespan can cost exponentially more than $2000. The possibilities are literally frightening, and frighteningly likely to happen when you’re not buying certified-used from a reputable dealership:
ENGINE REPAIRS: There are hundreds of internal lubricated parts. The average repair for an internal engine failure repair costs between $2000 - $5000 if the engine needs replaced, and there may be symptoms present that are not detectable by the average used car buyer.
TRANSMISSION REPAIRS: There are internal lubricated parts, including seals, gaskets and clutches that work interdependently. The average cost of repair for internal failure cost between $2000 - $4000 or more for the average vehicle. Again, there may be symptoms present that are not detectable by the average used car buyer.
DRIVE AXLES and DIFFERENTIAL REPAIRS: Repairs to any of the vehicles drive axles or differentials can be very expensive, especially if they were not maintained. The average repair costs can range from $1000 - $2000 for an internal failure, more if the complete assembly needs to be replaced.
FOUR WHEEL DRIVE: ALL WHEEL DRIVE REPAIRS: These are also very complex systems that are very expensive to repair or replace, costing $1000 - $2000.
STEERING SYSTEM REPAIRS: There are 100+ individual parts (moving and stationary) - The average cost of repair is $500 - $1500.
SUSPENSION SYSTEM REPAIRS: There are many individual parts depending on advanced systems; the average cost of repair is $500 to $1000 or more.
BRAKE REPAIRS: There are many individual wearable parts not including the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) - The average cost of repair is $350 to over $1000.
COOLING SYSTEM REPAIRS: There are many components in the cooling system that are affected by the normal wear and tear of driving; the average cost of repair is over $400. Timing belt driven water pumps can cost over $900.
SEALS and GASKETS REPAIRS: Cylinder head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets are common failures to many vehicles; the average cost of repair can range from $500 to over $1000.
AIR CONDITIONER and HEATER REPAIRS: Many vehicles do not blow cold air. The seller states it just needs a tune-up charge of freon. This means the original charge must have leaked out somewhere over time. A professional inspector has many years of training and experience to detect where freon normally leaks from and may be able to tell with a visual inspection of the air conditioning components if evidence is present. - The average cost of repair can be over $1000!!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPAIRS: Many electrical component problems can go undetected to the un-trained eye. The average cost of repair can be over $500.
When you buy a used car, don’t compromise the peace of your mind for an extra $2000 up front. This is where the GM Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Program comes in; when you choose certified pre-owned Chevy vehicles, you know that only the "best of the best" used cars qualify for GM’s certification program.
Before a used car is labeled as certified used car for sale, the car must be no more than five model years old. It also must be well maintained and have less than 60,000 miles. There are also maintenance checks that are preformed on the vehicles as well.
All certified used Chevrolet vehicles are covered by towing or rental car services including travel coverage. Each vehicle purchased has a 150-point vehicle inspection and a GM Certified Wrap Service Contract that includes a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and 10-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance.

Don’t take the risk of buying privately or from a disreputable dealer! Visit City Chevrolet in Charlotte, to see one of the largest certified used car inventories in North Carolina!
